Setting up your Email Clients to use SMTP Port 587

Solution

Due to overwhelming spam coming in from port 25 to the mailservers, we have disabled port 25. moving forward please use port 587 in your mail client. below are the settings specifically to the current popular e-mail clients.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS / WINDOWS MAIL SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. In the mail program click the Tools menu at the top of the window and then click Accounts.
  2. When the Internet Accounts window opens click on the Mail tab at the top of the window. You should see your email account listed in the box below. Click on its name to highlight it and then click the .Properties. button on the right side of the window
  3. When the email Propertieswindowsopens, click on the servers tab at the top. At the bottom of that window put the check in the box that says My server requires authentication. Then click the settings button to the right.
  4. In the Outgoing Mail Server window select the Log on using option. Then put your full email address and password in the Account name and password boxes, make sure the Remember password option is checked. Then click ok at the bottom of that window.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
  6. If the Outgoing port is currently set to 25, change it to 587.
  7. At the bottom of the email properties window, click Apply, then click Ok. In the bottom of you Internet Accounts window press the Close button.

 

WINDOWS LIVE MAIL SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. Click on the Accounts tab.
  2. Click on the Properties button.
  3. Click On the servers Tab
  4. Make sure that there is a check next to My Server Requires Authentication.
  5. Click the Settings button.
  6. Make sure the dot is next to Log On Using.
  7. The Account Name is your full email address.
  8. The Password is your normal email password.
  9. Make sure that Remember Password is checked, Click OK
  10. Click on the Advanced tab.
  11. Make sure that the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port is set to 587.
  12. Click OK

 

OUTLOOK 2007 SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click on Tools then select Account Settings. This will bring up the Email Accounts wizard
  3. Select the your email account and click “Change”
  4. Click “More Settings”
  5. Click on the “Outgoing Server” tab
  6. Check “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”
  7. Check “Log on using” radio button
  8. User Name: Your full email address
  9. Password: Your email password
  10. Click on the Advanced Tab
  11. If the Outgoing (SMTP) port is currently set to 25, change it to 587.
  12. Click “OK”
  13. Click “Next”
  14. Click “Finish”

 

OUTLOOK 2010 SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. From the File menu, select “Info” and choose “Account Settings”
  2. Select your Email account and click the “Change” button above.
  3. Click the “More Settings…” button in the bottom-right corner of the E-Mail Accounts window
  4. In the Internet Email Settings window, click the “Outgoing Server” tab.
  5. Ensure that the box next to “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” is checked and “Log On Using” is selected.
    1. User Name: Your full email address
    2. Password: Your email password
  6. Click the “Advanced” tab and make sure that “Use the following type of encrypted connection” is set to “None” for the outgoing (SMTP) port settings.
  7. Change the outgoing server port to 587.
  8. Click Ok, then Next, then Close.

 

THUNDERBIRD SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. Open Thunderbird, go to Tools then click on Account Settings, then Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  2. Select the outgoing server by clicking on it, then click the Edit button.
  3. Under Security and Authentication, check the “Use name and password” option.
  4. Under User Name type in your full email address.
  5. Look at the port setting. If it says 25, change it to 587. If it says 465, do not change it. Click OK.
  6. The first time you send a message, it will ask you for the password. Type it in and it should save it going forward.

 

MAC MAIL SMTP PORT 587 SETUP

 

  1. Open the Mail program.
  2. From the MAIL menu, choose PREFERENCES.
  3. Click the “Accounts” icon.
  4. Click on the appropriate account, and then click the “Edit” button.
  5. Click “Server Settings”.
  6. Select “Password” from the “Authentication” setting.
  7. Enter your email address as the username.
  8. Enter your email password in the password field.
  9. Look at the Server Port setting. If it says 25, change it to 587. If it says 465, do not change it.
  10. Click Ok
